Accidental BTC Transfer: What Happened?

I need some help here, guys! I was trying to pay for ExpressVPN, which costs about $12.95. But I accidentally sent the whole amount of 0.0111 BTC. The payment went through to their address, but only part of it was used for the subscription. The rest got moved somewhere else fast, and I’m kinda confused. Any idea where my BTC went?

Nah man, if you send to one address, the change should go to your own wallet. Do you see the Addresses tab in Electrum? If not, you might need to enable it first. Check for those change addresses; they usually show up in yellow.

If you hadn’t mentioned your wallet is empty, I’d assume that bc1q3z... was your change address too. But since you say your balance is zero, something else must've happened. Maybe your computer's compromised and the change address got hijacked.

A few things might've happened, but I can’t say for sure without seeing what you did. 1. You might’ve downloaded Electrum from some sketchy site. If that’s the case, the scammer might have your bitcoin. But why would they send anything to ExpressVPN? Sounds weird. 2. Maybe the extra amount was sent somewhere else.

What version of Electrum are you using? And how did you send the money? Did you use standard sending or something like "pay-to-many"? You should check if the transaction shows up in your history tab. If it does, then it's linked to your wallet. It should show the sent amount and the change shouldn’t be included.

If your wallet wasn’t set to send everything, the leftover should’ve gone to a change address or back to the same address if you turned off that option. But if your wallet is showing zero, it looks like something went wrong.

OP might be new and actually doesn’t know if their wallet is empty or not. They probably don’t get how Electrum works. Once they respond to the questions, we’ll have a better idea of what’s going on.
