I think the real danger is QC breaking the ECDSA, which could compromise our private keys. So, can we fork Bitcoin to tackle these issues?
Honestly, it's all about computational resources. Unless a QC can find an SHA256 collision, we're good. Block difficulty keeps it at a steady 10 minutes, whether it's ASICs or GPUs.

Satoshi said it won't be an overnight thing. Quantum computers will take time to become a real threat. They’ll likely break weaker algorithms first. And SHA-256 is still pretty safe.
With the recent Taproot updates, I don't see QC as a huge threat. If it happens, it’d affect all cryptography, not just Bitcoin.
Satoshi's comments on QC are impressive considering the time. He predicted some trends. Props to him for that.

But knowing a bit isn't fixing everything. Sure, he used ECDSA but missed stuff like key compression. And he didn’t foresee how to make mining efficient in a decentralized way.

True, no one person can solve every issue. Open-source means a team effort. Even if Satoshi didn’t have all the answers, that’s okay. He set the foundation.
Right, he got the ball rolling, but what if he never existed? Would we even have cryptocurrencies today?
It’s a deep question. Satoshi’s whitepaper had some inefficiencies. People thought it’d work like cash, but they didn’t expect the whole transaction history would be needed.

Quantum threats pop up often. I read some student claims we’re decades away from being able to crack SHA-256. But they need way stronger quantum computers first.
Satoshi didn’t just solve double-spending. He envisioned a decentralized crypto solution that didn’t exist before.
That article you mentioned mixed up SHA-256 and ECDSA. They’re two different things, and we need to get that right.

I take everything with a grain of salt. Quantum threats are real, but they need supercomputers first. Plus, lost coins are like treasure hunts.
I disagree. Look at the internet. In 40 years, things can change drastically. Who knows where quantum computing will be?
Yeah, we need to be proactive and not wait for a threat to become real. Changes take time, and we shouldn't wait until it’s too late.
So, are we discussing this tomorrow? Changes need consensus, and that takes time. Hard forks are messy, but it might be necessary.
I’m no expert, but quantum-resistant algorithms aren’t ready yet. Why talk about them now if they’re not needed for decades?

I’m not sure either. A QC that can break ECDLP requires tons of qubits we don’t have yet. But yeah, knowing public keys can be a big problem.
SHA256 should be one-way, but who knows if it’ll stay that way? Breaking it might not even need QC.
