Hey folks,
I've been seeing a drop in the number of BTC nodes lately. We know how key full nodes are for Bitcoin's health. Can we chat about why these nodes are so important and what decentralization means for Bitcoin as a whole?

So when miners calculate a Hash, they have to share their block confirmation with everyone, right? Do full nodes help with that? I feel like they kind of act like messengers.
Honestly, I think that bitnodes site is off. It’s showing a decline, but I don’t see it being that dramatic.
You can check other sites too, like 21.ninja or coin.dance. But yeah, if nodes keep dropping, that could mess with fault tolerance if some go offline.
Decentralization comes from having a mix of full nodes and miners spread out across different locations. It makes it harder for attackers to gain enough power to hit the network. With the current high hashrate, it’s super expensive to try something like that, which is a good thing.

What’s a Listening node anyway? Just saw that the count dropped massively from over 23k in 2018 to about 4.7k now. What does that mean for Bitcoin's security?
A Listening node is just a node that takes incoming connections.
But with fewer of them, it could lead to worse fault tolerance. Plus, some might argue it could create more centralization.

Thanks for clarifying that!
