How do I keep my ASIC miner safe when connected to a pool? šŸ¤” What should I avoid? I read stories about hackers hijacking miners for their own profit. Better safe than sorry.

1. First off, change that default username and password. 2. Put it behind a firewall, maybe on a separate VLAN. 3. Stick to stock or trusted firmware. Don't fall for random code claiming to boost profits; that stuff can get your gear hijacked. Also, some folks say avoid buying used miners unless you re-flash them to stock settings. Just a heads up, that's key. -Dave

Definitely keep your miner updated with the latest firmware and disable SSH. Change your root admin password too. Also, make sure your router's firewall is on to prevent attacks. Avoid sketchy websites that might record your IP; they could scan for open ports. And seriously, don’t flash random firmware from unknown sources. Tons of fake stuff out there.

So it's really a must to reflash used ASICs when you get them? šŸ¤” I bought two used ones from China and they seemed fine. I connected to Nicehash and the payouts matched what I expected. But now I guess I need to be more cautious. If I just update the firmware, does that mean the previous owner wasn't using anything dodgy?

Yup, sometimes those used miners can have hidden fees taking a small cut of your hashrate, like a 2-10% dev fee that you might not even notice. So definitely flash with a clean SD card and then update to the latest firmware. If you have a big farm, those fees can add up fast.
