Splitting a recovery seed between a parent and child sounds interesting. Think about it: if you divide a 12-word seed into two 6-word parts, it could enhance security, preventing one from spending Bitcoin without the other’s consent. What do you all think?

Why not go for a 12:12 split? Each gets 12 phrases, and you can fund each with a tiny amount of Bitcoin, making a thief think they have the full access. The trust issue is huge, though. How do you know the wallet creator isn't keeping a backup of the whole set?

I feel like splitting the seed isn’t ideal. If you have one half, you only need to guess six more words instead of all twelve. That’s a massive drop in security. Why not use Shamir's Secret Sharing or multisig? Both are stronger.

If two people own a wallet, a multi-signature approach is way better. Splitting the seed just leads to more trust issues, and one party could still spend without the other knowing.
Not safe at all. These words need to be in the right order, and if you mess that up, you're in trouble. Multisig has been available for a reason. Less hassle than splitting seeds.
You missed the point here. If both need to agree before spending, then multisig is clearly the way to go. Recovery is simpler than trying to piece together a split seed.

This is just wack. What if the dad dies or there’s a fire? Losing half the phrases can mean total loss. What’s the plan then?

Makes no sense. Protecting your coins shouldn’t create more problems. Trust matters, but splitting phrases can lead to issues if something happens to one party.
Splitting phrases is just risky. If one person loses their half, it's game over for the wallet. Multisig is better for maintaining access.

I agree, multisig is a better route. Avoids the hassle of splitting phrases and allows both parties to be in control.
Couldn’t have said it better. If one half goes missing, the coins could be gone forever. Multisig ensures no one can make moves without the other.
Right? This whole idea weakens entropy, and if you lose either half, that’s it. Multisig is superior in terms of security.
Yeah, multisig is way more practical. Early replies are spot on about security concerns with splitting the seed.

Imagine if one part gets misplaced. All those Bitcoins would be stuck forever. And don’t forget about the unexpected life events.

Totally! If one half of the seed goes missing, it’s like having no access at all. Multisig offers more options.
Nah, not for me. Handing over responsibility to someone else is just asking for trouble. Splitting the seed doesn’t guarantee safety.
Exactly, if one party loses their half, it’s a disaster. Single wallet is way simpler. Multisig adds unnecessary complexity.

Seed splitting is not smart. It just makes security weaker. Better stick with multisig wallets for complete security.

Why would you even split it? Multisig is designed to solve trust issues and is way easier to manage.
If splitting was the key, we wouldn’t even have multisig. It complicates things and lowers security.
