Federal Reserve always seems late on making big moves. They cut rates but unemployment keeps climbing weeks after, dragging us into recession. Powell sticks to "the data" which is often old news by the time it hits his desk. So, is Trump right in demanding a rate cut ASAP?
Powell claims the rate cuts are due to economic risks, not Trump's nudging. But come on, it feels like Powell is just trying to ride Trump's wave and keep things smooth. He definitely doesn’t want to be on the bad side of the guy planning to shake up the Fed.
But really, is cutting rates early smart? The Fed has a history of being slow to act. Trump’s been pushing Powell to lower rates since February, but Powell's holding off cause he wants inflation under that 2% mark... which some say is just a random number.
You really think Trump can force Powell? He can’t without firing him, and that'd mess with the whole US dollar game. Many dictators have tried to meddle with economic stuff, ignoring the experts. If removing the Fed head was easy, it would’ve happened ages ago. Trump's actually made life harder for Americans with tariffs and all.
Dude, chill. We're all just trying to figure this out here. When I say "forced" I’m not saying Powell will bend to Trump. But Trump is worried about a recession hitting on his watch, so yeah, he’s pushing for the rate cuts. Plus, this whole debate about the 2% inflation target being arbitrary is worth exploring.
