So I was checking the manual, and it kind of looks like it suggests running the miner horizontally. Anyone else see that?

Eh, didn’t seem to matter with the older models, so maybe it’s similar for the S19 too. Some people say they had fewer failures when they went horizontal with chips facing up. But I mean, the S19 doesn’t seem to have bad thermal paste, so just find what works for your setup.

Right? Sounds like one vote for horizontal to me. I’ve had 5 chips fail... kinda makes you wonder.

I’m skeptical about how orientation affects the chips. I get gravity is a thing, and sure, if chips face up they might not drop. But if the solder’s bad, that’s a whole different issue, you know? Poor solder can cause failures no matter the position.

Totally with you. Just doubled my mining setup, now running two rigs. Curious to see how well the S19s hold up since I ditched my problem S17s just in time.

Where does it say it must be horizontal? And what does 'horizontally but not on the sides' even mean? Temp-wise, the heat output and fan airflow should be the same no matter how you set it up. There are chips at the top regardless, so I’m not seeing the big deal.

Yeah, but this image shows the S19 set up vertically. That’s how most people do it. Still, it doesn’t mean you can’t go horizontal. Honestly, what that person claimed doesn’t make sense to me.

From my experience, S19s are just as problematic as the S17s. Got 36 S19 95t from different batches, and I’ve lost 2 PSUs and 4 hashboards already, all within the warranty. Bitmain won’t take back just the broken hashboards, so I’m stuck running them like this.

I’ve got a small horizontal setup in a positive pressure cabinet, and it worked fine for my S9/L3 setup. Tried it for space reasons. Thought it would cool better, but didn’t see much difference. When I switched to S17 Pros, horizontal ended up causing issues. Heatsinks fell off, and that led to overheating.
