Should Gloria Zhao's Access to Bitcoin Core be Revoked?

Why doesn’t the Bitcoin Core team just ban Gloria Zhao who pushed through that notorious "uncap OP_RETURN" change in Core v30? Shouldn’t they be fixing the actual code instead?

Come on, let’s not be misogynistic here. Gloria is a solid developer, probably better than the majority in this space. Seriously, you want to blame her? That’s not how it works. OP_RETURN changes are staying put, deal with it. If you don’t like it, feel free to create your own version, just don’t complain when it flops like Bitcoin Cash did.

Actually, it was instagibbs (Greg Sanders) who introduced that change. Plus, Peter Todd kicked off the first pull request back in 2023. A bit odd you’re only targeting Gloria instead of bringing up the rest.

Good point, thanks for clearing that up. But honestly, the level of misogyny toward Gloria is ridiculous. Rumors going around that she only got her spot because of some boyfriend in Core? That’s just vile. If someone really could infiltrate that high just through relationships, Bitcoin would be toast.

I think Gloria should just announce she’s firing everyone who supported this decision and expose their funding sources. Core needs to take a stance against spammers too. Then she should just step down. Seriously, what’s the point otherwise?

Totally agree with @dogedegen. This is just classic misogyny at play. People point fingers at a woman as if she’s the root of all problems. I have no issue with criticism if it’s based on facts, but spreading false info just makes everything worse.

Why not just replace her with a dude instead? That way, people like you won’t scream misogyny when criticizing the head of Core. And if she’s a lesbian, well, we know that would just fuel the fire.

Wait a sec, if you check the GitHub link, instagibbs actually created the PR. Gloria just merged it. There were six reviewers who approved the change too.

Gloria Zhao was key in lifting the 80-byte data limit for OP_RETURN in Bitcoin Core v30. This change could let us store nearly 4MB of data, which is a big deal.

But most people don’t see it as controversial, honestly. Miners and exchanges that matter seem to approve of the changes.

Honestly, Core has become a circus. It’s been run poorly for years now. Zhao isn’t the only issue; it’s all a mess. I think switching to something like Bitcoin Knots could be the way forward.

Why revoke anyone’s access? Let’s keep it open and decentralized. Anyone should be able to join or leave without much hassle. Bitcoin needs to be tough enough to withstand attacks.

This isn’t how Bitcoin or GitHub operates. Maintainers have key roles and can’t just come and go as they please. Gloria earned her spot through hard work. When another maintainer is needed, we vote.

Your poll is a joke. It’s just a way to push your agenda. Public opinion isn’t gonna change the fact that they’re not revoking anyone based on polls.

There’s a misconception that Bitcoin is some kind of democracy where dev roles are based on public merit. It’s more of an informal hierarchy. If you can’t understand that, go run your own project.
