Hey guys, Not sure if this is the right spot but here goes. I’ve been into Bitcoin for a while now but still figuring out Lightning. Recently set up Wallet of Satoshi and Phoenix wallet for self custody. My town’s got a few places accepting Lightning which is kinda cool. Not super techy though, so still learning about the hardware part of running a node.

Welcome to the convo! Honestly, I'd ditch the whole Umbrel Home thing unless you wanna pay extra for convenience. Grab a used mini-PC and 1 TB SSD instead of a Pi. It’ll handle data way better and you won’t have to replace SD cards constantly. My tip? Treat it as a spending node. Fund it, then open a couple of channels around 1-2M sats to nodes that you actually use for payments. Check out those local shops for good peers. Forget tiny channels, set fees low so payments actually go through.

I gotta disagree a bit. Umbrel Home is a solid starting point. Just open a couple of small channels to get the hang of liquidity. Pairing it with Phoenix for spending is smart. No need to stress about routing or balancing until you feel more confident, right? Been in Bitcoin since 2015, but hey, we all start somewhere. Just keep at it, consistency is key.

Just a heads up, Phoenix Wallet doesn’t let you link to your own node. You might wanna think about that. Yeah Umbrel Home is pricey AF but it's not the same as using a Raspberry Pi. They actually use an NVMe SSD and an Intel chip, so it's not all bad. Just weigh your options carefully.
