Hey, I'm new to this whole thing and trying to set up BitcoinCore for the first time. But I'm hitting a wall during the sync process. Got a fresh 1TB external SSD, but it keeps throwing an error. I searched online and some folks said it might be hardware-related. I even tried another new SSD and got the same issue at about the same point. I'm stuck here... any advice would be awesome.

Sounds like you might be running into a known issue. Check out this link seems like a similar case.

Thanks for that! Yeah, it looks like that’s the fix I needed.
Just to summarize for others: this is mainly a Mac OS issue. My external SSD was formatted in ExFAT and since I’m on MacOS 14 Sonoma, I reformatted it to APFS using Disk Utility. Restarted the sync and now it’s smooth sailing. No more errors. Appreciate the help!
Pro tip: avoid using Sandisk.
Samsung or key are much better options. Sandisk and Western Digital have had loads of failures across different setups. Checking reviews now.
Here’s one I found: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/wd-faces-class-action-lawsuit-over-sandisk-extreme-pro-ssd-failures.
Definitely worth having a second copy on a Samsung, just in case.
