What do you mean by the bitcoin client ending support for old wallets?

Which wallet are you referencing? Is it the bitcoin core wallet file or something else? Do you have a wallet.dat file? Any messages or info that you can share?

Sounds like it's about any Bitcoin client, not just Bitcoin Core. Even Electrum has its own backup file. It's smart to keep a backup on a cold storage device. That way, you can sign transactions offline without needing to update anything.

With the next bitcoin core version, there's a conversion utility included if you want to use keys from an older wallet. Just a bit of added work when moving from cold storage.
