New Whatsminer M20 Available for Pre-Order

I just checked out Pangolin for M10s and surprise, there's an M20 listed. Only on their site though, nothing from the manufacturer yet. Looks like it's using 12nm chips, pre-order with shipping before May 20, 2019. Specs are interesting, got two models: 48TH/S for $1450 and a beefy 58TH/S for $1500. Pretty pumped about the 48TH model, numbers look solid.

Pretty sure this is legit and pre-orders are open. I'm considering grabbing both models for some YouTube content. Been chatting with their team about it. Just a heads up, these are 12nm, not 7nm, so maybe another upgrade coming in a few months. Oh and don’t forget, US buyers might face that trump tax.

Cool news for sure. I mentioned in the M10 thread, I'm probably getting a demo unit to review the M20. Gonna keep you all updated on that!

Surprised by how small the upgrade is. M10S pushes 55TH at 3400W, while M20 does 58TH at 3300W. For a new chip, the improvement feels kinda lame.

Honestly, from m10 to m20, that’s like night and day. M10 hits 31TH at 2300W, while M20 does 48TH at the same power. But from M10S to M20...eh, not much of a leap.

From my view, the 58TH model's performance really hinges on how many chips they're cramming in compared to the M10S. M20-48 churning out speed vs power is quite a jump from M10-31.

Exactly! I don’t think the high-speed version should even be sold without more efficient settings. Last 10TH takes 1000W, that’s just crazy.

I asked for both models for a side-by-side comparison. Probably looking at 10-30 M20 48TH short term, and maybe scaling up to 50-100 in the long run.

Looking forward to those reviews and videos! Just wanted to point out it's only on Pangolin so folks can check it out. I believe in this gear, might just go against my rule of pre-ordering first batches.

That PSU spec is great too, still supports up to 264V. If they had dropped to 240V, that would’ve been a bummer. That whole 7nm future talk has me thinking about what they’ll pull off next.

I wouldn’t call them ‘old chips’ just yet. 16/14nm is fully mature with stable specs, while 12/10nm is almost there. The 7nm tech is still evolving, so it’s a work in progress for everyone.

True, they’re nailing that 12nm at 48TH and 2300W. If they manage efficiency settings like with the M10, that’d be sick. They could make the power cost way more favorable.

Interesting points! But for a model number with just a small price difference, it feels off. Maybe they should hire me for some marketing advice or something.

Looking at the pricing, it’ll still be below Innosilicon T3 after taxes. So, pretty decent deal.

On paper, the M20 looks promising for people paying higher power costs. But the 58TH model is still a mystery. If coin prices rise, that $50 could be worth it.

Totally agree! If the efficiency modes are good, that 58T could be a better investment overall.

Just remember, the import tax depends on when it arrives, not when you place the order. Could be a gamble if trade issues get sorted by then.

I’ve heard rumors about a deadline around April 1st for the trade talks. Who knows what’ll happen.

Current trade talks are supposed to wrap up this month. We’ll see if rates go up or stay the same. But the pricing on this batch looks solid.
