The Bank for International Settlements just dropped some new recommendations on regulating global stablecoins. They’re saying these coins could become super important across multiple countries. Crazy stuff.

Honestly, if we get a solid regulatory framework for crypto, stablecoins might be unnecessary. I mean, why not just use bank accounts to buy Bitcoin directly? We might not even be able to cash out Bitcoin anymore after regulations come in.

Right? But I think if they tighten the regulations, we’ll end up needing KYC to use stablecoins. Still, with something like DAI being hard to regulate, the non-KYC options might stick around.

All stablecoins are centralized anyway. The issuers can enforce KYC if they want, but that could turn a lot of users away. How’s the BIS gonna enforce regulations globally though? That's a huge question.

I mostly hold DAI, but I’m not loving what I see lately. DAI used to rely heavily on stablecoins like USDC, and now it’s got a bunch of real-world assets in there. Just not a good look.

You think I can just whip up a stablecoin pegged to USD? I’d need a ton of assets, like US treasury bonds. It’s tough to keep a stable value if the US government tells banks to close accounts for stablecoin companies.

You could back a stablecoin with other cryptos, like BTC or Litecoin, but that means inflated collateral and years of development. And let’s be real, it could attract all the wrong attention.

Remember Luna? It was a decentralized stablecoin backed by over 60k BTC and it still crashed. I doubt any stablecoin can gain trust without being tied to USD after that disaster.

Which fiat will this GSC even be pegged to? No info on that in the document. Feels like they just wanna control the market with their own stablecoin. Just another move to regulate crypto like Bitcoin.
