Need Help with Old Bitcoin Wallet

I mined some Bitcoin back in the day, like 2009, using Windows XP. Now I got Windows 7. Still have my XP disk with everything backed up. How do I transfer this to Windows 7? And how do I cash out some Bitcoin? I’m retired and need the funds! I'm in China for medical reasons but I have no issues with the regulations here since my finances are all outside China. Gonna have to use a proxy.

Check for the "wallet.dat" file in your Windows XP Bitcoin Data folder. That’s where it usually is. If the XP drive shows a different letter when you connect it to Windows 7, just browse to that correct location. Make sure to back up that file first.

Yeah, I had a tough time moving my old wallet.dat from 2011 into a newer Bitcoin Core version a few years ago. Had to jump through some hoops with old versions to finally get it to work. @kiwino1 just take it slow, work in a secure spot, not on your daily driver.

I followed your advice about finding the wallet.dat, but now I'm stuck with this error: "Unsupported Chainstate database format found." It tells me to restart with -reindex-chainstate. What does that even mean? Bitcoin Core just stops right there!

You gotta be careful with that old wallet from 2009 too. If it's encrypted, you'll need the password or some recovery tricks. Check out this guide from LoyceV on recovering Bitcoin. If you have the private key backed up, you can just import that.

That error means you need to add the command to rebuild the UTXO set. You must’ve upgraded from some old version. To do that, find where Bitcoin-qt.exe is, hold 'SHIFT' + right-click on the folder, and start up with that reindex option. Watch out for the "prune block storage" setting, or it’ll mess with your blockchain downloads.

If the wallet file created on 2009, it's likely you used old version of software called "Bitcoin" or "Bitcoin Qt" (today those are called "Bitcoin Core") version 0.2 or older where encryption feature didn't exist. So i'd suggest you to double check security of your device and backup medium.
