Hey all,
I've got this transaction that was sent to me over a week ago. The fee was really high, like 342 sat/vB, but it’s still hangin’ in the mempool. The current fee rate is only around 144 sat/vB. Why isn’t it confirmed yet?
Can someone take a look at my hash?

Sounds like your transaction has an unconfirmed parent. Basically, that means the funds you're using were part of another transaction that hasn’t been confirmed yet. So until that one gets cleared, yours can’t be confirmed either.
What’s the transaction ID?
Just sent the ID in a PM.
Thanks for checking it out! Normally high-priority fees get confirmed fast, but this one and another I had are stuck for way too long. What’s up with that? Why’s there an unconfirmed parent?
Try submitting the parent transaction to the Viabtc accelerator. You can do it for free a certain number of times. Or, check out CPFP if you wanna boost it.
Viabtc’s down right now. And that CPFP tool says I’d need to pay like $250 just to get my transaction through. This shouldn't even be my problem. It’s a direct transfer with a high fee!

I took a look. There’s a chain of unconfirmed transactions linked to yours, and the effective fee rate is much lower than yours, about 17 sat/vB.
If you control any of the input addresses, CPFP could help. Hit up the sender and complain.
I’ll never pay $2200 for a confirmation. That’s nuts. The amount being sent is only $800!
So the sender just used unspent unconfirmed coins?

Yeah, that seems to be the case. And yeah, they could probably do CPFP, but they won’t.
So confusing... If I had my own wallet, I could do CPFP, but here I can’t access my keys with this Coinbase wallet. It’s just a mess.
Coinbase wallets do give you seed phrases, but sounds like you're talking about the exchange site. If that’s the case, you're outta luck without control over your funds.

It's definitely coinbase.com I used.
This community is awesome, thanks a ton for the help! I asked the sender, but they said they just sent it straight to me without any complications.
Try mempool.space with your hash. You can see the unconfirmed parent and how deep the problem goes.
Thanks! But yeah, if it's really just the Coinbase exchange, I'm pretty stuck. I don’t have control to do anything like bumping the transaction. Just frustrating.

Had you sent it to your own wallet, kind of makes you wish you had the private key for doing CPFP, huh? These network fees are crazy right now.
For real! Paying fees that high isn’t worth it for what I’m trying to receive. I can’t see why the sender thought sending unspent coins was a good idea.
Look, Coinbase isn't gonna help you speed this up. The blame game is on! Your sender swears the money was from a confirmed transaction, but it traces back to a long mess of unconfirmed coins.
True, but it looks like they made a mistake by sending me these small unconfirmed transactions. I didn’t expect the fees to spike like this.
So this parent transaction has 500 inputs, huh? It’s all about the size in fees. Even with locktime or not, it’s still stuck until that parent confirms.
Exactly! Those 500 inputs blew up your transaction size, hence the insane fee requests. It’s a bit of a consolidation mess.
I know the sender; it’s a company I’ve dealt with. But they’re saying it’s not their fault either.
It seems like they even set locktime to confuse things further.
