If you're handling money for others, under the Bank Secrecy Act, you're basically labeled a Money Services Business. Crypto mixers? Yeah, they fall under that category too according to FinCEN.

True, but that KYC thing basically ruins the whole point of using a mixer. Who’s gonna jump through those hoops for privacy?

Right? If you mix your coins, the mixer knows where that bitcoin came from. Sure, the recipient won’t, but that completely contradicts the privacy aspect.

Exactly, so you're kinda doxing yourself, which isn't cool for most people. Plus, mixed funds might still get flagged by exchanges.

For sure. They’re probably gonna have some identifiable markers on transactions. It’ll make tracking easier for authorities, which defeats the purpose of privacy entirely.

Totally. Most folks using mixers want privacy, so asking for KYC just kills that vibe. Only non-privacy folks would take that route anyway.

Centralized exchanges are kinda like mixers too. You send in coins and get back new ones, but without KYC, it’s just a mix of transactions.

Right! They don’t like mixers because they complicate tracking. Once mixers start cooperating with the authorities, complaints will vanish.
Cr Posts: 55 · Reputation: 28
But then you lose privacy! Centralized exchanges are notorious for data farming. Not really a safe place to hide transactions.

Yeah, we don’t want that. The more control the government tries to exert, the more people will exit crypto.

Mixers are being shut down left and right, but it's not like they’re snitching. They just have to keep logs as a safety net.
P Posts: 363 · Reputation: 2049
Exactly. The government wants user data, and without KYC, they can’t trace anything. This might push away users looking for privacy.

That’s why insurance in crypto is tricky. It’s not the same as traditional banking. You rely on exchanges that don’t always protect you.

Illegal mixers will always be around, providing a black market. If they can't track those transactions, it’ll just complicate everything.

So, the government will never let us have complete freedom in our transactions. They want to maintain control over finances.

Yeah, exactly. Insurance policies just don't cut it in the crypto world. You gotta be careful about where you keep your coins.

#17 Sep 10, 2019, 10:54 PM Governments hate untraceable transactions, and they want to kill that aspect of crypto. One mixer gets shut down, two more pop up.

#18 Sep 11, 2019, 10:35 AM Privacy tools are under constant threat now. We should just focus on decentralized options like CoinJoin.

#19 Sep 13, 2019, 09:45 PM Honestly, if you can't handle your own coins, just stick to fiat. Privacy isn’t the issue bad people are.

#20 Sep 14, 2019, 03:20 PM China’s a perfect example. They tried to ban crypto but people are still using it under the radar. You can't stop it.
