So, on May 22, Burak Keceli dropped an email in the developer mailing list talking about a new layer-two solution. This one supposedly scales better and has way better privacy than Lightning. It’s like Chaumian eCash but without centralized risks and uses shared outputs. Sounds intriguing, right?
Ark: A New Take on Privacy and Scalability

That’s cool, but I’m also working on a Lightning wallet. If it's all in Python, we could collaborate. I'm just trying to hash out some ideas. Got thoughts?
But wait, the whole watchtower thing seems kinda sketchy. You’re saying you can secure your wallet password with AES? What if an attacker gets in faster than you can decrypt?

Honestly, even using 64-bit UNIX timestamps sounds like a weak key. If the algorithm takes too long, it could mess up the whole decryption process. Not a fan of that.
What even is the deal with double-spending? Does Ark have some issues with that? I read their FAQ and it made me go hmm... also, no BTC donations through Ark? Kinda suspicious.

I find Ark’s concept super interesting. If it can cut out the need for liquidity like Lightning, that’s a win. But the lack of public code and slow team responses? Not so great.
So, double-spending is a risk with LN too? Does that mean we’re in the same boat here?
Wait, how is it that LN is also prone to double-spending? Can someone break that down?
Another red flag popped up about Ark on Twitter. Not loving this trend...
From what I’m seeing, Ark is still early-stage, right? Is it really ready for prime time? Also, they say it works with Lightning, but why not replace it instead?
Why does criticizing LN and pushing for big blocks raise eyebrows? I mean, I do think LN has issues, especially with its inbound capacity.
I noticed another thread on this. Maybe we should just merge it and keep the chat going there?

One year from now, I wonder what’s changed. Ark’s overview is updated and they’re launching Ark Labs. Ark v2 is out too. Anyone checked the roadmap?
What’s this upcoming soft fork people keep talking about? Anyone got details?

About those covenant proposals... which ones are actually safe or efficient?
I think BIP-119 is the big name in covenants, but not sure how it stacks up against others. I've seen people mentioning OP_CAT too, but that sounds risky for block space.
So, is the only difference in Ark v2 that you can stop a node whenever? It’d be cool if there was a way to use Ark without running a node like with some LN wallets.

I’m into CTV, but all these competing ideas make me second-guess. OP_CAT seems cool, but it could be a disaster for block space.
Just saw a tweet explaining Ark can work with less interactivity and without a soft fork. Seems promising!
There’s a new FAQ thread up. Maybe we should shift some of the nitty-gritty discussions there.
