Looking for Old Bitcoin Versions

Hey, is there anywhere I can grab an old version of Bitcoin? Like, Bitcoin 0.2 for Windows?

Those ancient versions won’t connect to the network anymore. Pretty sure you’ll hit some issues. Why do you even want such an old version?

Not for transactions or anything, just curious about how it was back then. Wanna run it on my PC and check out the settings, even offline.

You might find some old versions here: https://satoshi.nakamotoinstitute.org/code/. Just a heads up, really old versions can’t deal with modern block sizes. And yeah, changes in p2p protocol are a must for anything before 0.2.9.

Have you checked the Bitcoin core GitHub page? They have a list of older versions you can look at. Found Bitcoin 0.2.0 there too.

If you’re into super old stuff, check out this thread. It mentions early releases. Hal Finney even chimed in there.

You can find both 32bit and 64bit versions at https://bitcoin.org/bin/bitcoin-core-0.12.0/. Didn’t check if the links still work.

That’s actually a newer version. 0.2.0 is from 2009, while that v0.12.0 came out in 2016.

There is a windows build of v0.2.10 from Laszlo Hanyecz (yep, the pizza guy). Check it out here: http://heliacal.net/~solar/bitcoin/builds/Win32-MinGW-SVN-81/.

You could find old versions on GitHub. But those won’t connect to the network unless you modify them. Again, GitHub has older versions.

Awesome! Thanks a ton! I also downloaded the source codes from the links you shared, but it’s kinda tricky with all the library installs needed.

Anyone out there can help? I’m searching for Bitcoin core versions 0.1 and 0.2 for research.

Next time, maybe start a new thread. But you can find docker images for older Bitcoin core versions back to 0.2.0. Should be useful!
