I got my ledger nano s around Christmas from ledgerwallet.com since it was the cheapest. It came from France but honestly, I'm starting to think I made a bad choice buying it from there. No phone support and their email replies take ages... I can't even use this thing. Is it defective or needs fixing? I've watched a ton of videos and read guides, but sometimes the instructions just don’t match what I see.

Dude, never buy used wallets! It's super risky. Stick to official sources like Ledger, Trezor, etc. or you might end up with something compromised. Have you tried resetting your Ledger? A different cable might help too.

I had a similar issue during my update. Check your device manager for USB devices with a yellow triangle. Updating those drivers helped me a lot. Then just redo the MCU update. There's even a reddit thread about this, a bunch of people faced the same issue.
