Hey folks. A client told me he mined some bitcoins back in 2009. He has this backup of files with a creation date from that year, so I thought I should look into it more. Could be real, right?

That screenshot you posted shows 5 blocks mined on September 5, 2020, in just under 45 minutes, which is total nonsense. 1. The mining difficulty makes it impossible to mine 5 blocks that fast. 2. Block reward was 6.25 BTC then, not 50.

Yeah, looks fake to me too. Could be a modified version of Bitcoin Core. Anyone can create coins since Bitcoin's open source. Maybe the client should share the BTC address here so we can check if there's any truth to this. If it's legit, we can help him recover those bitcoins.

Just run those addresses through any BTC explorer to see if they hold any coins. You can use sites like blockchain.com or btc.com.

The image still seems off. Only 3 blocks mined but it shows a total balance of over 312,000? If you share the client's BTC address, we can take a look or you could check it yourself.

Nope, still fake. The image claims 3 blocks were mined on April 13, 2009, but you can verify that no blocks were mined then. Might be faster to check the balances of those addresses instead.
