Came across some tweets about the Lightning Network lately. I'm a long-time fan and have reported on its metrics before. Excited to dive back into it!
Insights on the Lightning Network Growth

Yeah, LN is on fire right now. The growth is insane, especially with BTC prices surging.
So much of that growth happened recently. The capacity is just skyrocketing.
Check out some data from txstats.com and bitcoinvisuals.com. They're great for anyone wanting to learn about LN.
Don’t want to get too technical here. Just hoping we can keep this thread casual and talk about LN and its development. Adding your info to the main post.
Coindesk just reported that the number of nodes in the Lightning Network has doubled in just three months.
Capacity is nice and all, but honestly it doesn’t tell the whole story. Market cap is misleading too.
Right? I mean, I could just lock my coins in LN to inflate the capacity without actually using it.
Let’s look at average capacity per channel instead. Gives a clearer picture of liquidity and how well payments can flow.

True, half the channels are stuck with about $200 max. That’s a big bottleneck for larger transactions.
Wow, looking at historical growth is incredible. It’s like watching the early internet evolve!
Yeah, found a cool visual that shows how far LN has come in four years. Super impressive.
Did you see the link to bitcoinvisuals.com? It shows that capacity has actually been stable over the past year.

Exactly. But nobody knows how many payments are truly flowing through those channels.
If half the channels have such low liquidity, there're serious limits on spending power.

Totally! Just think: Alice with $4000 can’t even spend it if the channels keep closing on her.
What really counts is adoption rate, not just price. LN is key for making BTC usable again.
Totally agree. But some people think LN just shifts BTC use to altcoins instead of making it better.
Yeah, that's a concern. If 90% of liquidity is from just 1% of nodes, it raises questions about decentralization.
I get that. But maybe these nodes are just waiting for more users to join the network.
