Handling PSU Fans in Immersion with Antminer S17+

Thinking of setting up immersion cooling for my Antminer S17+. What do we do about the PSU fans inside?

I’d say it’s cool to let those fans sit in the liquid. They need to spin for the PSU to work, but not super fast. If you wanna disable them, it’s a hassle to open up the PSU and put in fan simulators.

Thanks for those video links! They show the PSU fans being removed for S19, but nothing specific for S17+. Got 15 ohm resistors ready, but anyone actually done this with S17+?

They mention in the video it’s not worth removing the fans since they don’t use much power and that opening the PSU is a pain.

Right, but the PSU fans are just 2 wire with no RPM feedback. The case fans are 4 wire and do need circuit boards for simulating. Not sure how to handle the PSU fans for S17+.

Lol, yeah they’re definitely 2 wire fans! I checked a PSU recently. In the S17 video, they talk about just taking off the fan guard without taking out the fan.

I just left my PSU fans connected but took off the cover. They help with fluid circulation.

Glad to hear it works! I’d love to see a setup pic. Just watch out for those capacitors in the PSU, they can shock you.

What kind of immersion setup you got coming? I’m waiting for mine from dcx to use with S17+s.

Awesome, can’t wait for your updates! I just got my coolant from dcx too. My S17+ boards are getting fixed, so I’m using this time to plan what to do with those noisy PSU fans.

I’ve tried a bunch of mods for this PSU. It doesn’t check for fans, you can unplug all of them and it still works!

Thanks for confirming that. Seems like a lot of people are having luck with no fans.

I’ve got S19 and S19 Pro running with no fans on the ASICs or PSU, just using spoofers on the ASICs. No issues so far.
