FluMiner T3 vs Avalon Q: Which is Better?

Just found out about a new miner called FluMiner T3. Specs: 115TH/s, 1700W, ~15J/T. Honestly, if I had to pick between this and Avalon Q, I think FluMiner T3 edges it out, but not by a huge margin. The heatsink on the T3 is legit.

At 5 cents per kWh, you won't break even in three years, especially with the halving on the horizon. If your rate is higher, why even bother? This miner is tempting for solo mining but man, that power consumption is a killer.

Why would you want to pay it off in two years at 5 cents per kWh and then toss it after the halving? Or risk it all on solo mining with daily 40 kWh bills? What's so special about this ASIC?

I just heard about this FluMiner thing. $1.30 a month at 9 cents per kWh? Nah, that’s just not worth it. The only one I think might work is the FluMiner L3, but even that takes too long to hit ROI.

Design-wise, it looks like a desktop CPU, kinda like Avalon Q. But honestly, it seems this one might be a bit more efficient. Only issue? The company isn’t well-known, and they don’t release firmware updates like Avalon does.

If you have free power, grab an old S19 ASIC and upgrade it with a controller. They have tons of parts and firmware options for energy efficiency. Plus, you can get it for just $200-300.

Yeah, check out altairtech.io for those controllers. You could pull two boards and sell them on eBay. Cost for everything is under a grand. Sell the boards for 200 each, and you’re set.

If you're getting this miner, prepare for a lot of headaches. I’ve read tons of complaints about constant reboots and even some weird burning smells. Better stick with something like Avalon Q that has a solid reputation.

How much does the controller from altairtech.io even cost? I saw some guys using ASICs with Vnish firmware, which seems to work well for 1-2 boards.

My links are for brand new gear, not used ones. Vnish firmware takes a 2% cut forever, but the Epic controller from altairtech.io has no fees, which is a big win.

Vnish isn’t a fix-all. It works fine on older ASIC firmware until February 2024, then you might need to open up it or switch controllers. Just be careful or you could brick your ASIC.

You both make solid points, but we’re discussing Avalon Q vs FluMiner T3. If you have cheap electricity, I'd still lean towards Avalon Q. Vnish is good, but it’s limited on newer models unless you can open up them.

Avalon gear has also broken on me early on, and their support is just okay. On the flip side, FluMiner has had its share of complaints too. If I had to choose, I’d go with Avalon since they’re available on altairtech.io.

Look, if you have 3 free kW, getting an S19 ASIC with 100 TH for $250 is a no-brainer. They’re cheap to maintain too. Just putting it out there.
