I remember when Trump signed that act about stablecoins. Banks were grumbling but then people claimed it wouldn’t really impact them. Now the ECB says stablecoins could weaken bank lending in Europe... What's your take?

Classic ECB move. They wanna control everything. CBDCs are their jam while they look down on stablecoins since they're private. Honestly, if Europeans had a choice, they’d pick dollar-pegged stablecoins mostly. ECB is just trying to keep the old system alive.

Totally agree. When folks move their cash to crypto, especially stablecoins, banks feel it hard. They live off deposits to lend money. Is public trust in banks fading? With all the global tensions, it makes sense that people are looking to safeguard their assets.

Yeah, central banks hate losing grip on the money game. Stablecoins are popular because people trust them more. It’s not just about lending; it’s about control. If banks lose deposits, they’ll have to change their ways.

It's like bypassing traditional banks, right? Back in the day, cash was king, now it's all digital. Stablecoins are gonna change the game. Just hope they stay pegged and the reserve management is legit.

I checked out that ECB paper. They talk about how people are moving cash to stablecoins, which messes with banks’ ability to lend. People are pulling out cash for good reasons years of negative rates and inflation are pushing them away.

True, but it’s not just stablecoins. All cryptos are pulling money from banks. The more cash goes to wallets, the less banks have to lend. But hey, that’s a bank problem, not ours. If they want business, they gotta adapt.

Exactly. The ECB is more scared of losing control than anything else. If stablecoins take off, banks won't have enough to lend, and central banks will struggle with interest rates. Their grip on the economy weakens.

But stablecoins need fiat to exist, right? You can’t just swap a stablecoin out of thin air. People still borrow from banks. If stablecoin lending becomes a thing, banks will pivot, but it won't be the same as before.

Haha, they’re worried people will ditch their banks. Banks usually don’t offer great loans anyway. And there are lending options in crypto, so what's the big deal?

Banks could easily fix this by launching their own stablecoins. Like Societé Générale is already doing. Other banks are looking into it too. It's a competitive market, but they could capitalize on it.

Those banks that refuse to change are gonna get left behind. If they wanna keep customers, they need to jump into crypto. The world’s changing, and trust in banks is waning.

Who even cares about stablecoins? They’re just unofficial fiat. I’m all about Bitcoin and solid alts. If bank lending was so great, everyone would do it. People still prefer BTC over any stablecoin.

Sure, if everyone shifts to stablecoins, then yeah, it could happen. DeFi platforms are already using stablecoins in ways that banks can’t compete with. Those yields are enticing.

ECB is clearly feeling threatened by stablecoins. With their low interest rates, it makes sense people would rather put their money in stablecoins with higher returns.

Stablecoins won't really impact bank lending that much. They're still new and haven't made a dent in traditional finance. Plus, holding stablecoins doesn’t earn you anything, so what's the appeal?

I don’t think banks are going anywhere. Lots of people still rely on them, even those not into crypto. Adding crypto just gives them more options, not a replacement.

We gotta clarify which markets we’re talking about. In some places, trust in banks is still strong. Maybe it’s more about using banks for long-term savings, not lending.

It just shows how out of touch they are. As stablecoins gain traction, they worry about losing control. Stablecoins are beneficial, and if ECB can't keep up, that's on them.

Why not partner with stablecoin providers instead? Central banks and stablecoin companies could work together for a win-win situation. In the US, there's a big push for USD-based stablecoins to replace the current system.
