The first block supporting BIP-110 was just mined this week. It's crazy how the Bitcoin community is at a major turning point. After the OP_RETURN limit jump to 100,000 bytes in Core 30.2, we're witnessing a massive change in protocol usage. Some folks think that bigger on-chain data for smart contracts is just natural progress for a fee-generating network, but others are worried we're losing Bitcoin's essence as Digital Gold for just Digital Storage.

BIP-110? Nah, it's just an upgrade for the Knots client, which has only like 5% of miners backing it. Ocean and a couple other tiny pools are in it. This thing isn't gonna activate. If it somehow did, though, it would ruin Bitcoin as 'digital gold'. A single random dev's decision shouldn't dictate the fate of coins.

Honestly, UTXOs have nothing to do with decentralization. It’s all about programming, BIP contributions, and how the nodes and hashrate are distributed. UTXOs will fluctuante based on user activity and consolidations. But do they really connect to decentralization?

Digital storage? UTXOs are stored in RAM, right? So yeah, it changes memory needs and syncing times. But BTC is still evaluated on its value by investors. Even with OP_RETURN changes, if people panic and say no to investing, that’s just not how it works. Liquidity matters way more.

Not totally on point. A bigger UTXO set does raise validation costs for nodes. So, running full nodes would become pricier. Sure, some data is RAM-bound, but it lives on disk too. OP_RETURN outputs don’t even create new UTXOs, so they can be ignored. Techniques exist to safely store data in the blockchain.

This has been a thing since version 30.0. UTXO growth was happening way before that. Just look at the stats, it's clear. Low RAM and slow storage definitely slow down initial sync.

Honestly, I hope they just fork off already. BIP-110 is easy to bypass; let them do their own thing while we keep BTC free from confiscation and censoring. I mean, forks are just waiting to happen, right? It’s like a show watching all those who think they’re following the one true BTC.

From what I see, a block was mined signaling support for BIP-110, not that the software is fully activated. This is wild since similar debates happened years ago without resolution. Feels like someone’s trying to stir things up, probably to cash in on another fork like others did before.
