Some companies are pushing "Blockchain smartphones" to make Web3 mainstream. HTC released the Exodus 1 in 2019 and recently, Solana dropped the "Solana Saga" and now the "Solana Seeker". They say you can get airdrops, but is it really worth it?

I find the hardware intriguing if it's really tamper-resistant. Sure, adds a layer of security for Web3 use. But, most buy these phones mainly for airdrops like the SKR token and other perks. I guess that’s the big draw.
Honestly, these blockchain phones should be super rugged and tamper-proof if they wanna stand out. Without real innovation over regular phones, they just seem gimmicky. Airdrop potential is cool, but is it enough to make the investment worth it?

It’s tricky to say if they’ll actually pay off. If the SKR token gains value, then maybe they could profit. But airdrops on Solana are pretty rare, so it feels like a gamble.
For the price, I’d rather buy a solid hardware wallet with airgapped features. The phone market is so competitive that unique ideas won’t stay unique for long.
Sure, blockchain phones sound exciting at first, but it feels like a marketing tactic. They want to integrate Web3 into phones, like built-in wallets and security features. Yet, you can do most of this with any decent Android or iOS using trusted apps.
If these phones are truly blockchain-based, they should offer something more in terms of privacy. From what I’ve read, they seem to have a lot of interest, but I’m still skeptical.
Totally agree, if they can offer long-term security and cost-efficiency, they’ll have a market. A lot of buyers are likely just hunting for those airdrops in the Solana ecosystem.

Yeah, the Solana Saga has value for sure, especially with those airdrops. Many early buyers already got their money back before the phone even shipped. Free money is tough to ignore.
What actually makes them "blockchain enabled" other than some preloaded apps? Seems like hype to me. All the articles I've seen just regurgitate buzzwords about decentralization without real substance.
Exactly my thoughts. Many buyers seem indifferent to the phone quality and just want it for the airdrops. Even if it pays off, I’d stick to cheaper Androids. Airdrops are too hit or miss.
I see these phones as just hype. High price, underwhelming specs. They're just a marketing scheme to lure in new crypto users. Airdrops are nice, but is that sustainable? Batteries are non-replaceable. What happens when they die?
