I’ve been really worried about the updates for the iancoleman/bip39 project. It’s the go-to tool for mnemonic recovery and super user-friendly. Last update was ages ago, in August 2023. We really need BIP341 support for taproot addresses, especially since you can get the private keys but not the addresses.

Totally with you on that, not much happening in the repo these days. I heard iancoleman got sidetracked by some other project (safe network or something). He was active until around March, then poof... silence. Seedtools is decent, but it doesn’t support altcoins like iancoleman does.

I checked it out, you can switch between BIP44, 49, 84, 86, and BIP32. But BIP32 path is kind of weird it’s m/0'/0'/_index_, right? Not sure any wallet uses that. Kinda reminds me of the old Bitcoin core wallet. But yeah, you can’t really change the derivation path much.

Yeah, I saw he opened an issue about it, but nothing seems to be done since then. Just a ghost town over there. Not even any pull requests for it.

The first three numbers in the derivation path are for purpose, coin type, and account. It lets you create multiple wallets from one seed phrase. But for BIP32, it wouldn’t make sense to just throw in random paths. Taproot’s path looks like it’s m/86'/0'/0' or something similar.

That's the issue with open-source projects, right? Everyone uses them but hardly anyone contributes. Just look at the contributions on BIP39. Quality seems low too, if you compare the commits. People get busy and can’t keep doing this free stuff forever.
