What's the Time to Crack BTC Puzzle 53 on Mac Mini M4?

I’m tinkering with a version of kangaroo and curious how long it might take to crack puzzle 53 on a Mac Mini M4. I get it’s been solved, just testing here.

Does it really need to be tied to that pricey hardware? Seems a bit excessive.

If no one with a Mac Mini M4 chimes in (and it’s been 34 hours), look for benchmarks from other rigs. Also might help to state what other setups you’ve got.

Last time I ran on an i7 8700, it took like 3 seconds on average. Yours could be quicker with the same setup. Just so you know, I used a version from GitHub that’s like the standard script.

Apple M4? No one seems to know yet. Probably cause nobody’s coded solvers for Apple’s ARM64 architecture. But hey, I bet it’s way faster than recent Intel i7s.

On a 2020 M1, some libs modding for kangaroo hit around 11 Mo/s per thread. So, you’d get over 60 Mo/s but it shares GPU with CPU. Don’t expect it to match high-end RTX cards, but performance-per-watt is insane.

There’s still potential. An M2 with some power should work fine.

I only have an i5 🙃 and feel like I won’t be cracking any puzzles anytime soon. Any thoughts on getting into it? I’m just a third-year CS student.

Yes, possible, but your odds with a single i5 are like finding an alien ship while being zapped by a dying star. Pretty much zero, especially after hearing about Puzzle 67 needing tons of GPUs for cracking.

If your i5 does around 20MK/s and you're going for puzzle #135, your chances are insane like 1 in trillions. Seriously, it’s practically a lost cause.
