Using Old AntMiners for Heating and More

I've got some old AntMiners S7s lying around. Haven't powered them on in a couple of years now. Thought about using them mainly in winter for heating up the place. Anyone know any good exchanges for selling these old beasts?

Using them for heat sounds kinda weird... But honestly, I doubt anyone’s gonna buy those old miners at this point.

A few things to consider 1) Might be better to post this in the right section here 2) Let folks know your location in your post. Some might be interested if they’re nearby. 3) Yeah, shipping costs will eat you alive, so maybe try local markets like Craigslist or Facebook. 4) Check if they actually work before trying to sell. 5) Be realistic on pricing. An S7 probably isn’t gonna pull even close to what you’d expect.

Man, anything below an S9 is pretty much trash. Might as well take them apart for parts, that way you could make some cash off scrap.

It depends, really. S3 may not be a money-maker, but it’s sturdy. Runs off a basic power supply and can work as a noise-free heater, too. Sure, you can do that with a single board S9, but it’s gonna be louder and less reliable.

Haha, right? With my old S3, I barely make a cent a day. But hey, my solar power is free, and I use the heat for water which saves me a bit. Kinda fun, but not gonna get rich from it.

I also have a couple of S7s I picked up used. The guy said a chip was off in each one. Anyone know if that means they’ll just be weaker?

Good news! All chips are functioning. But yeah, with damaged ASICs, would the hashrate be impacted?

If it’s down to a fifth of the power usage, you’re probably seeing drops in hashing too. Free power is cool, but honestly, selling the extra back to the grid might make more sense than burning it. Saving up for real heating is a better play than mining for pocket change.

Weirdly enough, it’s doing fine with its original hashrate. I’ve got mine running a bit differently. I’m using excess solar power to charge batteries and then sending the hash to a small setup.

How are you managing bandwidth for all that? Using Wi-Fi or LTE? I’ve found power sources, but the internet is the killer.

I use Raspberry Pis with GSM modules and 500 GB prepaid IoT cards. It's not perfect, but it works. For small miners, pooling hashes might be an idea. Don’t know if it’d even pay off though.

Solid idea! Just get an LTE connection. Even a basic one would work for mining, no matter how many machines you have.

Last I saw, S9s were around $50 with a PSU. Yours probably won’t sell over $10, unless someone can pick them up locally for free.

No way you'd find S9s at that price. I just got one for $200 and the market's not much different now.

Location matters, bro. $200 for an S9 is highway robbery! M21s out there are cheaper, even better options.

I buy on eBay for smaller needs. But customs fees from China? Ouch.

Same here in Italy. Best bet is through some networks in Switzerland. Better prices without customs.
