Mining with ASICs using 4G Internet: Is it a Good Idea?

Hey everyone, Anyone ever tried mining with a couple of ASICs on a 4G connection? Is it a long-term solution or should I expect issues? Thanks for any tips!

If your internet is stable, definitely possible. You'll need a good way to connect your ASICs though. How many do you plan to run? Instead of a phone, a 4G modem might be better. Directly connect your miners that way. If you've got more than four, just grab a router with extra ports.

Latency could be a real pain. Just curious if anyone’s using a commercial-grade 4G modem like a Cradlepoint for this?

It really depends on your area and the strength of the 4G/5G signals. If your network is solid and you have good reception, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Latency issues are usually local; you might wanna check the network stats.

I’ve been running 9 Antminer S9s in a windmill using 4G for about a year now. So far, so good! No significant delays or issues with shares. I’ll scale up later this year and let you know how that goes.

In theory, 5G should be a lot better. Mining doesn't need ultra-low latency, and 4G has decent latency under 70ms in my experience. But keep an eye on bandwidth, especially if you’ve got multiple miners.

I use my iPhone to share a 4G connection. Connect my Ubuntu server via WiFi and then use ethernet to link to my ASICs. It’s been solid around the clock!

You'd be surprised! I run several Antminers and laptops, but I barely hit 50 MB download. Uploads are a bit higher, like 850 MB, but it varies.

3GB on a prepaid plan is more than enough.

5G should be faster and better for mining. I felt a noticeable improvement when I switched from 3G to 4G. Less rejected shares for sure, so 5G should rock!

If you're near a cell tower, latency shouldn't be an issue. Been on 4G for years with zero connection problems, and I have a tower right above me.

I got a 3G/4G modem from AliExpress. Using it with one ASIC, a mining rig, and other devices. EU ping is around 50-60, but in the US or AUS, it’s up to 200.
