This year’s market has been wild, right? Bulls are definitely having their moment. A buddy of mine says he’s making bank trading altcoins not just holding them. Got me thinking, who’s actually profiting more from altcoins compared to Bitcoin this year?
Trading Bitcoin vs Altcoins: What's Better?

Trading cryptos is a total rollercoaster, man. So many ups and downs. Your friend might’ve just caught a lucky break with the right altcoin. I’ve had my share of both wins and losses. Lost a chunk on altcoins while doing well with Bitcoin. It’s just safer for me.

I’m not deep into altcoins, but I’ve picked a few. Bitcoin's solid, but altcoins can really boost returns, especially during bull runs. The growth of Bitcoin helps altcoins too, so I’ve taken my chances and made some gains.
Here’s my take:
1. Bitcoin is generally safer but not as wild in terms of gains.
2. Altcoins can be risky but super volatile. I managed to score big with some meme coins earlier this year, but I had to be quick to cash out before the crashes.
True, Bitcoin’s market is smaller and can still be manipulated more easily than traditional stocks. If your friend played it smart with spot trading, that’s one thing. But if he’s using margin or futures, I’d be surprised if he avoided liquidations with all the ups and downs in altcoins.

Yeah, those low volume coins are prime targets for manipulation. You can’t really mess with larger market cap coins like ETH or XRP. Their growth seems more organic and stable compared to those sketchy little coins.
You nailed it. Only small coins are subject to those pump and dump schemes. Once a coin hits the upper tiers, it’s much harder to manipulate. If I were you, I’d stick to the well-established coins for trading.

It really boils down to personal comfort. Some people thrive trading Bitcoin, others dig altcoins. If you’re venturing into futures, Bitcoin feels safer, but spot trading altcoins can also work if you play it smart.

Trading strategies can differ a lot. If you’ve got a solid plan for altcoins, you can do pretty well without needing a huge investment. Like, $5k in Bitcoin versus $500 in altcoins can yield different results due to the volatility.

I’ve traded Bitcoin a few times this year but made more from altcoins. The volatility is insane. Almost blew my account on one token, but found better options. So, profits from Bitcoin holding, but altcoin trading brought me more this year.
If you’ve got significant funds and prefer a more stable approach, Bitcoin seems to be the way to go. It protects you from the wild swings that can wipe out your capital. But if you’re ready to gamble with some altcoins, go for it.

Kudos to your friend for being able to trade successfully. But let’s face it, this market pressures traders way more than holders. Many are gonna sweat losses instead of gains with altcoin trading.
Your buddy's strategy is a reflection of the wild west that altcoin markets are. It's all too easy to get rekt with dodgy coins. Some legit mid-cap altcoins indeed made waves this year, but you’ve got to be careful.

I’ve swung traded Solana too, but only when the market’s bullish. Altcoins can surge more than Bitcoin during pumps. But I stick to solid projects, avoiding the trash. Always cash out in BTC when I can.

Altcoins are where my focus is. Sure, I hold some Bitcoin, but the multiplier gains from altcoins can be insane if you pick the right ones. It's a bit of a gamble, though.
Market trends can really guide your decisions. The greater the trading volume, the more action you see. Bitcoin's user base dominates, but altcoin trading definitely has its risks and rewards.

You can’t deny the volatility of altcoins. They can catapult high, but the uncertainty is just as real. Bitcoin’s stability isn’t comparable to the wild swings of smaller coins.

The way you framed your question is interesting. ETH is an altcoin too and pretty tough to manipulate like Bitcoin. There’s risk, but also major profit potential if you manage your trades well.
Higher volatility means more potential profit, but also greater risks. Altcoin trading can be thrilling, but I’d recommend taking smaller gains rather than holding out for huge profits. I trade a mix of BNB, ETH, and LTC.
Active trading means you’re always on the lookout for good pairs. If Bitcoin isn’t giving you the vibe, you can definitely find other pairs with better volume and trading opportunities.
