They’re gonna have a tough time switching things up, cause ECDSA signatures are pretty rigid. Like, if they wanna change the signature type, it means upgrading the witness version. That’ll require a new address type and a soft-fork... sounds complicated, right?
I’m not expert in cryptography, but I feel like they need to tackle a couple things first. For instance, figure out which PQC method fits with Bitcoin. The abstract for FIP 203 is kinda vague, doesn’t even mention signature methods. They should also verify the security of each method carefully and not overlook possible backdoors.
It’s definitely more than just about signatures... Bitcoin relies heavily on Elliptic Curve Cryptography for its security. Rebuilding that foundation is gonna be a massive task. I wonder if the community will actually step up and take action instead of waiting for issues to arise.
Migrating won’t be a walk in the park... Changing encryption feels like messing with the coin’s core. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a fork for this migration. And let’s be real, the original blockchain probably stays until quantum computing can actually break the encryption. Might take decades before any real changes happen.
Yeah, like a bitcoin cash situation. Old coins would still exist on the old chain, while the new coins would be on this fresh network. Hope they get a fork going sooner rather than later. Might take some trial and error to get it right, though.
