I’m trying to get Bitcoin Core up on my Mac. Running MacOS 13.4.1, I originally had version 22.0 which worked fine. Then I went for the latest 25 version, downloaded the.dmg, and now it just flashes and won’t open. Any help would be awesome.

Sounds like you might have the old version still running. Make sure to completely close the 22.0 version before you install 25. You can also try moving the source code from Github directly to the /Applications/Bitcoin-Qt folder instead. Just a thought.

I had a similar issue. The.dmg doesn’t open properly either but it seems to mount. Check under Finder and see if it shows up there. I tried with previous versions, like 24.0, and they had similar flashing issues.

This could definitely be a security setting issue on your Mac. Here’s what you can do: hold down control while opening Bitcoin Core, choose open from the menu, and confirm in the dialog that appears. That should sort it out.

Not sure it’s just about money or certificates for notarization. Seems like it shouldn’t be too pricey, right? Anyone in the Bitcoin Core crew willing to cover those? Just curious.

If you’re having the same problem, make sure to check the mounted drive in Finder’s sidebar. It’s likely unrelated to the notarization stuff; more about how your system reads those files.

Have you changed your security settings in Security & Privacy to allow apps from sources other than the App Store? Also, you could try renaming your old Bitcoin Core app before installing the new one, might help to avoid any mix-up.
