I've been thinking about how to pull off atomic swaps with my WoW items and Bitcoin. I know about HTLC transactions, but I need a way for the receiver to get a secret only after a trade, while ensuring they can verify that the sender is legit. Any ideas?
Integrating atomic swaps into WoW for item exchanges

What you’re proposing isn’t really atomic. You’d still need a trusted third party. Just having ‘Charlie signs a note’ doesn't cut it. The game's not gonna give you a reliable link between items traded and Bitcoin preimages before anything happens. Blizzard could mess with trades or ban accounts. An addon can’t guarantee anything.
Yeah, I get it now. It’s not a perfect atomic setup because of trust issues. Bob needs proof he’s trading the right item, which can only happen if the game server shows a pre-image during the trade. The best I can come up with is having Charlie mint the item and use a PGP signature. But that still requires trust.
Honestly, tying Bitcoin directly to WoW items might be too complicated. A simpler way would be to create a value in the game currency that matches what you want in Bitcoin. Kinda like checking offers in a WoW-money and Bitcoin marketplace before you make a trade.
Not sure if I’m following everything, but this seems like it could turn into a WoW-money vs. Bitcoin marketplace. Minting these ‘Bitcoin items’ daily isn’t realistic, but it could be a start.
I’m not even sure if trading WoW currency or items is still against the game’s rules. But either way, trust is key until WoW possibly integrates this. Maybe in the future, they'll have their token or NFTs for items.
True, some markets already trade gold for real cash. But there's always a third party involved. Like, Charlie takes the gold from Alice but has to wait until Bob finishes a dungeon with Alice to trade the gold. Trusting a third party really complicates things.
This isn’t an official trade. WoW is an online game, and you can bet they’ll find out if you try this. It's probably against their rules, and it could backfire on you. I get the whole 'play-to-earn' argument, but be careful.
I don’t get this Bitcoin-only mindset. Sure, WoW has limitations because it's not blockchain. I’m not looking to trade high-value items. This system is about cutting out the middleman, who often holds everything and can just disappear with it. The idea is to make it safer for low-value trades.
