I've been updating some docs for ASIC miners, especially for the BM1366 models like Bitaxe and Nerdminers.
Most guides just show how to set them up but don't really talk about how heat affects long-term performance. I put together some notes on running stress tests to keep these miners efficient. Thinking about adding this to the Bitcoin Wiki for newbies to help them avoid hardware failures.
Any thoughts or past experiences to share?

For sure, a couple of quick tips:
- Swap out that stock thermal paste for something better, like Arctic MX6 or MX7.
- On BitAxe, you gotta replace that cheap heat sink. Get a proper one or something like the Thermaltake AXP60-50 "Copperzila".
- As for NerdOctAxe up to V3.1, the thermal monitoring is a total disaster. The temp sensor is way off since it's over 10mm from the ASIC. They probably have to tweak the software to make up for the bad design.
Just curious, is it really necessary to do all this for Bitaxe?
I mean, it hits 63°C at around 1.25 TH, and someone told me to just run it till it dies and then get a new one. Seems fair, right?
I've owned 7 BitAxe units, and trust me, 5 of them died because of the lousy heatsink.
Changing the thermal paste is a must. You can drop the temps by 8-10°C just by doing that, depending on the heatsink.
Those stock heatsinks are usually low quality and aren't mounted securely, leading to bad contact with the ASIC.
If you're okay with running it until it fails, why even ask about keeping it alive longer? But if you want it to last, definitely change the paste and heatsink.
