Anyone know how to solo mine Bitcoin Core 22.0? I get it, the difficulty is nuts, but I wanna try it for fun. Got my full node all set up on a VPS.

Nah, you can't mine solo with just a PC or VPS. You really need an ASIC miner for solo mining Bitcoin Core. If it's for testing, maybe try it on Testnet instead.

To do this, you'll need a USB ASIC miner, mining software like bfgminer, and a self-hosted pool. You can use the open-source ViaBTC pool code on your VPS to connect it to your BTC node. The pool handles the tricky parts for you.

I spent like 4 hours trying to set up ViaBTC's pool. It just wouldn’t compile right. Got any recommendations for a simpler solo pool code that’s easy to use?

Check it out here: https://this forum.org/index.php?topic=4980079.0. There’s other pool installers too. Not sure how good they are though. You might get better help in the altcoin mining section too.

Everything feels outdated. Tried Yiimp and Nomp, but they just don’t work with Ubuntu updates. It's like devs stopped caring about Bitcoin pools. I just wanna connect cgminer to my Bitcoin core and solo mine.

Here’s a script that works with Ubuntu 20.04: https://github.com/Coleganet/Coleganet-Pool-Install. You could also run p2pool solo, but you’ll have to look up how to set that up.

Run CKPool on your node, and you can use any stratum miner with it.

Actually, CKPool doesn’t work with Bitcoin Core 0.20.0 and up due to changes in the GetBlockTemplate. I fixed that and posted it here: https://github.com/skot/ckpool.
