Hey folks,
I came across an article from Germany that claims a child porn image might be found in one of the early Bitcoin blocks. Apparently, some researchers from RWTH Aachen and Goethe University found this out. Anyone know more details about which block it’s in? Need some verification here...
Finding Disturbing Content in Blockchain

If this is true, that’s just disgusting. Why not report it to the authorities first? That's serious stuff, man. Curiosity isn't enough to justify not alerting someone.
Seriously, why spread this misleading info? I heard about this back in 2017, and it's been around since 2013. Just because it's in an open-source blockchain doesn’t mean it’s legit or that we should assume the worst. Sounds like a stretch to link it to government sites.
It’s already been reported. The researchers collaborated with German police. Still, I get it, not everything is crystal clear. If it's legit, storing that blockchain could be illegal, right? That's a way for the government to take action.
Nah, it’s not just a government issue. It’s everyone’s problem. This isn’t just a link; it’s a picture, which complicates things way more.

Even if it exists, it doesn’t mean having the blockchain is illegal. Sure, there's illegal content, but it’s just binary data. You’d need a lot of effort to even find and view it. Just like if some rogue engineer hid stuff in a DLL file. That’s a whole different scenario.
In Germany, the laws around this are super strict. Even writing about CP or having encrypted files is illegal. It’s not just about tech, it’s about the content itself. If there’s a Windows update with that DLL, yeah, that’s illegal.
Still trying to find that block for proof myself.

From what I read in the paper, the researchers didn’t even confirm finding CP. They just mentioned a claim from an online forum without verifying it for legal reasons. Sure, anyone could add CP in the future, but courts usually won’t jail someone over just data blobs.
So, especially BTC enthusiasts say it's not illegal, but I need to verify it myself. Without knowing the specific block, I can't tell if it's actually CP or just regular porn. Anyone got insights?
