Experiences with Used ASIC Miners

How long did your used ASIC miner last? Anyone here had luck buying used miners that didn’t break down after a few months? Share your experiences.

Honestly, it all comes down to the model and who you buy it from. I've had used miners run for years without a hitch. But some models are just bad news, like the S17 series. I wouldn't touch a used S9k either.

Before buying, did you check the history of the miner? Can you have someone else look over it before you drop cash?

Maintenance by the previous owner matters a lot. They might lie about how well they took care of it. If you’re new to mining, I’d recommend buying new from Bitmain. At least you get a warranty.

I get that, but how good is that warranty? They’re slow on repairs and if one part’s out, they want the whole unit back. What a hassle. Other brands like Whatsminer seem better for replacements.

I've had three different miners and it’s all about the seller. I know someone in NJ who fixes equipment, so I trust him. Buying off eBay? Nah, too risky.

Why would someone sell their miner? Buying from Alibaba is like gambling. If it’s your first buy, go for new unless you trust the seller.

I’d stick with new miners too. They usually last longer and come with support. Sure, they’re pricier, but the safety is worth it.

I’ve played around with used miners, like a Zeus Hash rig, and honestly, it wasn’t worth it. Only fun if you can cover the electricity on your own.

I bought a bunch of S9s back in the day. They ran fine for years, but I bet used ones today would fail quickly. It’s a total gamble with used gear.

Bitmain's stuff can last, but not every model. S9s are fine if you can find them, but profitability is a real issue. The S19s are decent but check the new vs. used prices.

If you want to learn about fixing miners, there are courses out there. They aren’t free, but might be worth it if you're serious.
