Disabling AsicBoost on New Miners: Is It Possible?

Anyone figured out how to turn off AsicBoost on newer miners like S19/S19J or Whatsminer M20/M30? I think they stop hashing if stratum asks for version-rolling=false. Is there a way to disable Overt AsicBoost either with original or custom firmware? Thanks!

You can go back to an older firmware version on the S19 series by flashing an SD card, but their download page doesn't show those images anymore. You can grab it from archive.org though. Just remember to right-click and copy the link instead of clicking it directly. Follow the instructions to flash it.

Appreciate the help, everyone. As for the Whatsminer M20/M30, looks like there's no way to turn off AB. But for the S19, if you ditch AB, the hashing drops by over 50% on older models.

I guess when you say that, you’re probably looking at altcoin mining since all the big pools support AsicBoost for BTC. Might be better to ask about this over there instead of here.

We're pretty stuck with Whatsminer units. Have you reached out to their support for older firmware? I think the previous versions are free of AsicBoost. For the S19, have you checked out Braiins? You can disable AB with that, and it shouldn’t throttle your hashing down to 50%. Just let it auto-tune for you and see how performance changes with AB on and off.

Disabling AB actually increases your J/TH, which is a downside. It’s pretty clear why. AB reuses hashing data to find more nonces, so you’re doing less work for extra nonces. So yeah, seems pointless to turn it off.
