Bangladesh Bank is still saying no to virtual currencies. No Bitcoin, Ethereum, or anything similar is allowed. The central bank claims there's no legal body globally that supports such trading.

This isn’t breaking news! Back in 2021 they were clear about their stance. They’ve put out multiple statements against crypto. If you dig through their circulars, you’ll see they’ve always been against it.
Seriously, I just read the article and I'm confused. Can we hold or trade crypto legally? It's unclear if their statements are just suggestions or actual laws. It’s a mess...
Honestly, this seems like the same tune everywhere. Governments are telling people to steer clear of crypto; they just don’t want to lose control.
In Bangladesh, cryptocurrencies are banned because they see them as risky and decentralized. The Central Bank even warned that traders might face hefty prison sentences under money-laundering laws.

Countries plagued by corruption often ban cryptocurrencies, viewing them as criminal activity. They want to keep tight control over citizens and prevent any form of freedom that crypto brings.
Part of me thinks this comes from laziness. To tackle something new like crypto requires effort and expertise that many less-developed nations just don’t have. A ban is easier.
I’ve seen posts here from people in Bangladesh saying they’re trading crypto in secret. They don’t wanna break the law but still want to earn. It’s a tough situation.

Not sure about the Bangladeshi laws, but that news from 2021 feels outdated. There seem to be new rules popping up all the time. I’ve seen reports from 2023 that contradict earlier statements.
Looks like there’s no strict law against buying or selling crypto. Sure, the government might restrict certain agencies, but citizens seem to have some leeway. I think they’re just trying to regulate things.

If we take a look at the numbers, Bangladesh contributes a small part to the global BTC market. Yet, it seems there’s a lot of hidden trading happening over 8k BTC from Bangladeshis.
I wouldn’t put too much stock in those figures. China’s at the top of the charts for BTC, even with their ban. Sure, people find ways to trade secretly, but how widespread it is, who knows?
