As someone who's worked in compliance at a crypto exchange, collecting user data is my daily grind. It's insane how many passports and selfies I handle. Just last week we froze a user’s account with $48k because they tried to withdraw to a private wallet. Turns out, their activity was flagged as suspicious. It took six weeks to resolve, and they missed rent. Welcome to compliance.
Crypto and Privacy: A Lost Battle?

Honestly, we can debate this forever, but KYC and centralization aren’t going anywhere while governments exist. These days, people seem to just roll over for whatever’s handed to them.

Disagree! A lot of folks actually care about their privacy but don't have real choices. They don’t get what they give up for that easy experience. It's not that they don’t care, it’s about convenience.
You gotta back that up with data. People willingly do KYC for a measly $5 bonus. They think legal equals safe. It’s laughable. Once they have 5-6 figures, they'll realize how wrong they were.
True. We need to keep pushing for our rights. If people don’t start caring now, this false sense of security is gonna trap all of us. It affects everyone.

Using CEXs is risky. If there's even a small breach, user data gets exposed. Exchanges like to say ‘SAFU’ to build trust, but what if they get hacked? Privacy is a major issue.

The whole situation is set up for us to reveal everything about ourselves. If you don’t comply, you just won’t have access to services. It’s wild how we’ve normalized this.

Your story reminds me of my own experience. I sent $30 worth of Bitcoin to Binance, and they flagged it as suspicious! Like, really? What was so dangerous about $30?

Lol, same here! I sent $100, and they also asked me for proof of payment. Just ridiculous. I thought it was funny too, just for that small amount.

Haha, love it. It’s crazy how we give up our data without thinking twice. We pay these exchanges fees and trust them with our info more than we trust ourselves.

KYC is dangerous and pointless. Keeping funds online is risky. Look what happened with Bybit and KuCoin users in Nigeria. Everybody should pull their money into private wallets.
We all know the reality: governments want control, and KYC is their key to tracking crypto. It’s all about making sure crypto is traceable.
Yeah, and treating small amounts like large amounts makes no sense. There’s a huge difference between dealing with thousands versus a few hundred. The risks aren't the same.
They’re just pointing fingers at us. It’s not even about the specific amount. It’s more about control. People trust everything written online and forget basic logic.
Exactly! If you don’t provide all the info they want, you’ll be treated like a criminal. Using decentralized platforms can land you in serious trouble.

I think most crypto users know their data goes to tax authorities. It should be in the Terms of Service. If not, it’s just ignorance.
Right? People choose centralized exchanges because that’s what they know. It’s so easy, and they don’t even see why they should think differently.

Eventually, they’ll figure out the risks. Nothing stays hidden forever.

I’m really enjoying this discussion! Public perception on using CEXs is tough to change, and many just don’t care about their data. The ones who do are already on the same page.

Most people go for centralized exchanges because they’re more popular. Ask anyone, and they’ll name Binance or Coinbase. DEXs just don’t have that kind of visibility.
