With quantum signatures potentially disrupting blockspace, could we see governance split leading to a hardfork as the best way forward?

Yeah a hardfork just for quantum concerns seems unlikely unless we’re facing an immediate cryptographic issue. Bitcoin usually opts for softforks and slow changes.

It’s gonna happen eventually, a hardfork towards a quantum-resistant algo. But questions remain: which algo, how long will it take, and what happens to coins at risk?

Yeah, not sure if the ETF hype will matter if the fork doesn't happen soon. I do think a softfork is more likely though.

Bottom line, Bitcoin lacks a clear route to quantum resistance. All we can do is slow down the impact, but it's still coming.

If quantum signatures are introduced, they don't have to be mandatory immediately. We can make them optional until things get critical.

But what if they don't need to apply Shor’s algorithm in under 10 minutes? The bigger concern is reusing addresses. That’s a serious vulnerability.

Delaying congestion doesn’t solve the ultimate blockspace issue. Custodians and exchanges will adapt quickly anyway. Bitcoin needs to keep up with other chains.

I think Ethereum and other PoS chains are risking more with quantum threats. Bitcoin's UTXO model might give it an edge.

Altcoins are definitely more exposed to attacks due to smaller networks. If they can’t deal with 51% attacks, can they handle quantum threats?

Most altcoins can and will adapt faster than Bitcoin. They’ve already proven they can change quickly when needed.

The softfork strategy could work, but it’s more complex and might not be accepted. Hardforks could be more straightforward.

Exactly. If Bitcoin loses accessibility, it’s just an institutional token at that point, not real Bitcoin.
