Concerns Around BIP110

My previous thread got locked. Seems like some folks just don’t want to talk about what BIP110 actually means. Instead, it’s all about the name-calling: censorship, slippery slope, you name it. But hey, let’s try this again. What’s your beef with BIP110?

That’s not true. I only moderate this one and the one it replaced. I’m just trying to keep it on track. I prefer a no-drama zone. Honestly, a simple warning should be enough to avoid the personal attacks. You’re welcome to start your own thread that’s not moderated by me. I’d join in… until it gets nasty.

Sorry, I meant your threads about BIP110 objections. Honestly, I think it’s pointless. My biggest issue? One of my favorite YouTubers is turning into a total drama queen over this. His videos are all about the same tired topics. And his viewers? Total shitcoin vibes, claiming they’re bitcoin maxis. Super frustrating.

BIP110 could activate without miner support, which is a huge issue. Once block 961632 hits, any blocks it doesn’t like get marked invalid. With not enough miner backing in sight, we could see a fork. And it won't fix the spam issue either.

It could lead to total confiscation. If you’ve got any pre-signed timelock coins with a complex multisig, poof, they’re gone. Plus, it severely limits bitcoin's smart contract capabilities. All those cool scripts? Forget it. Got a inheritance plan with a 4 of 8 multisig needing a certain age? Tough luck.

Big mining pools are using spam tools like SlupStream and LibreRelay to push through junk data and ignore the nodes’ wishes. I’m convinced they’re in a spam cartel. Looking to them for guidance? Nah, I wouldn’t.

My biggest issue? It won’t tackle the spam problem. Even if we agree on spam definitions, BIP110 chains could still have spam. Developers will always find ways around the restrictions. It’s a never-ending battle. We’re talking about switching to a soft fork when this asset is about to explode in value, and we don’t even have solid benefits defined.

BIP110 isn’t really anti-spam. It tries to block the legit ways of sending data over p2p. You might still post data but through third parties. BIP110 is just rejecting part of core 30, where it made bitcoin a safe haven for file sharing. Some are saying it’s the end for core, but I think there’s still hope for them.
