Looking for budget options for solo Bitcoin mining. Need something with 5+ TH and I can spend around 500 watts. Want to upgrade old ASICs like the S9 but don't want to shell out 500 bucks for the Canaan Avalon Nano 3S. Thinking about picking up older, less profitable ASICs for around 20-200 bucks, do some upgrades, and get it mining solo. Any thoughts?
Budget ASIC for Solo BTC Mining

$500 for that Avalon? Are you serious? LuckyMiner with 4.5TH is only $203 right now and it uses just 120W. You gotta check it out, it's called Lucky miner LV08. Grab a couple to max out that 500W you're working with.
We’ve got Antminer S9 at 14.5 TH for just $150 plus shipping. We can get it all set up and send you a video before it ships. If you're interested, just hit me up!
Location complicates things a bit. My partner made a solid case for a single s19 or s21 board. I’ve got one running with an s19xp board inside. If you cool it down and crank the fan, it only pulls 22 watts per TH. I'll drop a pic of the dashboard soon.
Wait, so the 21 series can’t run on just 1 board? What’s the deal with that? Are you really running the s19xp with only one board? No firmware or upgrades? In Russia, these old models are like 30 bucks.
I ended up with a bunch of epic controllers. Super flexible. I even modded a t21 with two boards that works with any 19 series power supply. I’ll show you a pic when I get back home.
Maybe try your luck with 'Bitaxe'.
Been busy but here are two boards running at low clock speeds. I wanna send you one but shipping may be a pain. You could get an epic controller from altairtech and grab power bars for the s21, then just find an s19 power supply in Russia. It could last you years without pushing it hard.
So, just to clarify, can’t do this with a regular ASIC controller from the S19 series? Need to get that special ePIC controller?
Yeah, ePIC is the way to go. It offers tons of features on the fly. You can adjust fan speeds, clock speeds from 50MHz to 550MHz, and voltages from 11.9 to 15. It plays nicely with all the s19 and s21 models.
Didn’t know Vnish sold controllers too. Thought they just did special firmware for ASICs.
What about an Antminer L3+? It’s cheaper and way less power-hungry than BTC miners. Plus, two of those can outdo an S9 easily.
Why mine Litecoin solo? Do you really wanna chase a $500 reward? Solo mining BTC can potentially net you hundreds of thousands, but the odds are super slim. Who doesn’t dream about hitting the jackpot?
