Well, another one bites the dust. Looks like I’ll need to fix it up this week. Chips found = 0. Out of 7 BitAxes I’ve had, 5 have died on me... not a great track record at all. I think the heat sink mount is the main culprit here. Anyone else facing similar problems with their BitAxes?

Yeah, those heatsinks are terrible. They totally wobble. They should’ve gone for a 4-hole heatsink and PCB design.
Have you checked this out? They have upgrade kits for BitAxe models. Maybe something to consider? Is your chip dead or is it just the contacts?
Exactly, it’s the co-planarity issue with the ASIC. My fixing pin snapped clean off, and I didn’t see it until it was too late. I’ve got some spare BM1370’s, so I’ll fix it eventually. The chip is shot though. I tried re-flowing it but no luck... the heatsink mount failed.

Damn, 5 out of 7 dead is rough. I’ve had mine since early 2025, and thankfully they’re still running... knock on wood. Can you share what other issues you’ve had? Were they all heat-related?
No real overclocking for me, just running them at 625MHz and about 1.14V to 1.18V. I got them from different vendors, with the best build from Zeus BTC. It seems like all my failures stem from the heatsinks failing.
True, it’s such a simple fix. A 4-hole heatsink with a solid PCB and some nylon bolts would do the trick. Look how cheap those parts are! It’s infuriating that they skimped on this.
Yeah, it’s definitely a design flaw. Honestly wish I had swapped out the heatsinks from the start... I’d probably have avoided this mess. Found a good one from Thermalright, but it costs a bit.
I hate to keep bringing this up, but it’s just so easy to do right. For those who can’t repair them, it’s just a brick, and many get fed up with the whole BTC thing.

Thanks for the info. I’m keeping mine at a lower fan speed, around 490MHz and it’s close to 1TH/s. In winter I pushed it to 1.2TH/s, but now I might have to lower it more or invest in a better heatsink.
Totally agree. Once it’s bricked, that’s it for most users. The BitAxe just ends up as junk because they didn’t use decent heatsinks. I had similar issues with Gekko Science sticks when I started mining.
My single BitAxe went back to the guy at sidehack. He upgraded the heatsink, and it’s been running fine since last October. I keep it on the lowest clock and fans at 80%.
There’s a decent description of the BitAxe basic upgrade kit on this site. People just want to save money, but it’s worth it for better performance.
Honestly, I wish I’d replaced all the heatsinks from the start. Ordered a thermalright one now, can’t wait to see how it performs.
So, I’ve repaired mine, and it was a dead ASIC for sure. I put a Thermalright heatsink on it, and wow, the performance is fantastic now. Running at 725MHz, getting 1.4-1.5TH/s.
Shame that these units could’ve been solid. If they had better heatsinks, we’d have loyal customers.
Thermalright coolers are pretty cheap too. I’ve used them a lot; a good one goes for about $7.
I might reach out to them if I need more. This heatsink isn’t listed on their website anywhere, though.
There’s a similar cooler for AMD that’s around $7-8. Some miners modify and sell them for $20-30. If demand is low, the prices will stay high.
Who says spending extra on a miner is a waste? I prefer keeping them cool at 60°C for longevity, unlike many who go cheap and pay the price later.
