Hey guys, If I had free electricity, which miners should I consider? Looking for the most TH for the least cash. Durability matters too. Don’t wanna drop cash on something that’ll break after a few months. Any advice?

If power cost isn't an issue, you should check out Canaan. Their miners are power-hungry but quite cheap. Plus, there’s the upcoming T19 from Bitmain, should be priced well too. Also, there's a tool online that shows profitability. Just set your power rate to zero.

I’m kinda worried about reliability though. For instance, S9 series was a beast, but the S9k was terrible... Any current models that are known to be duds?

You hit the nail on the head! The S17 and T17 series are notorious for issues like losing heatsinks and short circuits. I’d say the S19 has fewer problems, but I can’t say for sure since Bitmain makes more S17/T17 units.

That’s an interesting thought, though. Why do you think faulty miners are still sold? I mean, do people actually buy them despite the bad rep?

If power is free, this convo is kinda moot. Just get anything that runs… old ASICs will still do, even if they don’t return much. What’s the point in worrying?

You should check out shop.canaan.io. They have tons of options. In the USA now with a 360-day warranty. The A1166 I own is around $1388 and hits 81TH. Nice choice if you need something solid.

Just a heads-up: those miners you find used are probably not brand new. Bitmain stopped making the S17/T17. People still buy them because they’re cheap or they might just want to tinker or learn.

The price and efficiency can push someone toward the S17 Pro. If you downclock it, it can pull 1000 watts for about 40TH. That could tempt some miners. But the Avalon A1166’s performance is really close.

Longevity is key for me too! I’ve only used Bitmain gear so unsure about other brands. If it lasts at least a year, I’m golden. I can hold on to what I mine until prices rise. Also, easy access to spare parts is a must. Avalons look like a solid deal right now.
