So my bank account in India just got frozen with a weird lien code. Spoke to my bank manager and he said it’s because of some cyber crime investigation. I traded on LocalBitcoins a while back, all with verified users, but now I'm stuck. Anyone else dealing with this? How do I get my account back?

You pretty much have to wait for the investigation to wrap up. If you didn’t do anything shady, you should be alright... but it’s worrying, right?

Yeah, there’s really no way to speed things up. Your only option is to stick with what your bank says and hope things clear up soon. Maybe check related issues like the zebpay case for some insights.
Definitely ask your bank for more info. Get details about the transactions they flagged. If any of them are from LocalBitcoins, you can reach out to support there too.
Right? It’s frustrating. I’ve got all my LocalBitcoins receipts ready. If they just told me which transaction triggered this, I could track down the scammer easily. Might as well try zebpay instead.
Is it a holiday season or what? Why is it taking so long for the bank to provide info? They need to hurry up, or else the scammer might disappear.
My bank manager says he has no clue about the transaction details. No calls from the cyber police either. Just sitting here waiting for a call... I've heard horror stories about cyber police being super slow in India.
From what I know, banks get notified about cyber frauds, and they freeze accounts. The police don’t directly freeze them without the bank’s knowledge. You might wanna escalate this to some higher-ups.

That’s true. The police investigating fraud won’t give you any info until the probe ends. Here, they legally can’t share anything, and the banks are in the same boat.
Exactly! Trying to get info from the bank might be pointless. Even if they unblock your account, you might not get any answers.
Consider filing an RTI with the bank and the cyber cell if you’re getting no responses. It could clarify what went wrong. Also, keep LocalBitcoins in the loop.
But isn’t it illegal for them to seize your funds without proof? I mean, how can they just freeze an account without explaining?

It varies by country. In the US, they can seize assets under suspicion, and sometimes they don’t have to return them if nothing gets prosecuted.

Man, that sounds terrible. If I was wrongly accused, I’d be furious. It’s like legal robbery if they don’t return your assets.
For OP, the best move is probably just to wait for the investigation results. Asking for details about the transactions won’t hurt.
The bank doesn’t decide if there’s proof or not. Once the police suspect something, they investigate and inform the bank, which then has to comply.
100% agree. If you’re under investigation, being defensive could backfire. Better to show you’re willing to cooperate.

I managed to email my branch manager and the police about my case, but no replies. It’s frustrating. The language barrier is tough too.
How much money are we talking about here? Usually, these freezes happen when someone moves a lot of cash around.

Seems like RTI isn’t gonna help much if they’re being this uncooperative. This could take a while unless it gets some media attention.
