My question is strictly about paying directly with crypto, not converting it to fiat. So this is a taxable event for Uncle Sam, even if I’m not converting crypto to cash?
Alright, say I buy a laptop from Newegg with Bitcoin. Will I get a 1099-K like I would from an exchange, or do I just put it on the 8949 form myself?
So I’m just sending Bitcoin to pay for a product, right? The merchant uses Bitpay to handle it, so the USD conversion happens on their end?
If I buy something from a store that accepts Bitcoin, is that a taxable event? Like, should I be reporting that to the IRS?
