Understanding Work Value in Bitcoin

What does work = Portion mean? Like if I see work = 50.06435 in the bitcoind files, what does that even mean? Just trying to wrap my head around it.

Are you talking about "log2_work=" in the UpdateTip lines in debug.log? That's basically the total number of hashes needed to create the blockchain up to that point. It helps in selecting the best chain but doesn’t explain why your node stopped syncing at 97%. You should probably check the actual error message or post your log here so we can help you out.
