So I have a question about bad timing with BTC. Anyone knows the worst duration for holding negatively?
If I remember right, back in Dec 2017, Bitcoin hit around 19.5k. Then in Jan 2023, it was below 20k, like 16k at one point. That gives around 5 years and 27 days of being in the red if you bought at the peak. Is this the worst record for negative HODLing or what?
Longest Period of Negative BTC Holding?

That could be the longest stretch, but not the final word on it. I mean, if you sold during the 2020/2021 boom, that changes things. BTC peaked at nearly 69k in 2021 before dropping down to 15.5k in 2022. If it hadn’t reached those highs, we wouldn’t even be talking about a 5-year hold being the worst.
But since it did hit the all-time high, your point stands. It’s a tough spot for those who held through those years.
Totally get that. If you bought at 19.2k and thought it’d hit 250k, you’d still be waiting, right?
But yeah, holding until Jan 2023 means you’ve really taken a hit. I see your point about selling at 68k, but if you managed to hold for 5 years and 2 months, you might still come out on top later!
Just depends on the timing and strategy, I guess.
